Well, 301 actually. The only two games not pictured are McDonald's TreasureLand Adventure & Nightmare Circus because they are on the way from eBay.
Yes, I am a dork, but I am proud of my collection. :D |

| 21st Stage: The Bold One takes on pirate plastic. |
[Jul. 15th, 2009|02:32 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | contemplative | ] | Have you ever been walking in a mall and seen one of those island shops that sell the 50+ Games in one "Game System" that plugs directly into a TV?
I'm sure you've all seen it, right down to the sometimes creepy person selling the systems that come with a light gun that totally won't work on the TVs of today with some pallet-swapped version of Contra demoing as they stop your peaceful walk to beg you to try it out. As you tilt your head slightly to the side in confusion after you see it, you ask yourself, "what the hell is that?"
Ladies and Gentlemen, you just caught a glimpse of a Pirate Classic Game. But there's not just a few of them, there's an assload of them. In my midst of trying several random roms on emulators and hunting for classic plastic, there's actually a lot to them. Most of these games are just so bad, so laughable, and so out there that they are unexpectedly memorable. Now of course, unless you live overseas (or from what I've heard, near a good flea market), it's incredibly hard to find an actual physical copy of many pirate games, but for good reason. I'm only going to call out a few of them, but rest assured, you will be stunned if this is new to you.
( Find out exactly what I'm talking about, including videos, under the cut. You know you wanna see... )
Amazed? I know I was. Maybe I'll mention more about these types of games in the future, but that's all for now. If you have played these games, I feel your pain. Off to sleep I go, but more thoughts like this are to come, folks! |

You know what's funny? So I've been on a classic gaming fix for the last few months now, and my girlfriend's dad asked me, "Are you starting a museum?"
I would absolutely love to. I've pretty much got all the major consoles now, since I found a top loader NES, an original "Wood Age" (as AVGN calls it) Atari 2600 , and FINALLY got a Sega Saturn (thanks to rannchan!!). I'm really thinking that the day when I finally have my own house, I will have a "Classic Plastic" museum of sorts in one of the game rooms or spare bedrooms. The only thing about it is the exhibits would probably still get much usage, lol.
The only systems left that I'm still trekking to find are a Sega Master System, a Sega CD, a Sega Pico (yes, I want one), an Atari 5200 (damn you sis for selling it!), a working Intellivision, a ColecoVision, & a Pong machine.
I also wouldn't mind owning a TurboDuo, a Pong machine, and especially a Sega CDX, but those are REALLY expensive. An original Neo*Geo would be pretty snazzy too... but now I'm just being ridiculous. Like I could ever get one of those for cheap.
I need a new shelving system for my Sega stuff, and when I get it together I'll take pics of the 20+ year collection. Getting close to over 250 games now. Freaking awesome. Some people collect comics. Some baseball cards. Me? Sega. Right on.
BTW, love my new icon. Thanks, annuskastya!
More to come later. |

Oh man... last post, 113 weeks ago.
So anyway, it's been too long since I've posted in here, but today I'm mainly making a list of every classic plastic game I have and will keep updating the list as more games/systems come into the collection. I want to do this so that I can pull this up on my iPhone while I shop and don't accidentally buy a duplicate (especially for the Genesis cause I have so many). I'm LJ-Cutting it cause it's reallllly long, but you're welcome to read it if you like. I'll post up pics of it later.

Achievements are eeeeeeeeeeeevil. But I guess they're doing their job my making me want to play more. And the think I had so many before I let my 360 Live account lapse while I had no system. ;_; |

| 15th Stage: Strider Hiryu will never leave Eurasia alive. :D. |
[Aug. 21st, 2006|08:52 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | nostalgic | ] | I haven't really had much time for gaming lately, but I've found lately that when I do, I've been playing my old-school games on the X'Eye.
Since johnnyfyre let me borrow his copy of the original Shining Force, I've been playing that. I fully remember now how frustrated I was with that game because it certainly is much harder that the sequel (though II is a much better game), but back in the day, I didn't know the beauty of the EGRESS spell to repeat and level up your party. This is one of the few games out there that I don't mind replaying battles over and over again not only because you need to to progress, but also because it's damn fun. While I may not like the characters as much as the second one (and to a lesser extent, SF3), it's nice that I'll finally be able to finish it. XD
I've also been addicted to Strider. It honestly was one of the first games I ever really immersed myself into when I was younger, right next to Battletoads, Super Mario Bros 3., and the original Sonic the Hedgehog. And the fact that the Genesis game was nearly a perfect port of the arcade game (only the voices were lost in translation) made it even better. Yeah, it's hard, but still a staple of what a good 2D adventure/platformer game is. I liked the sequel too, (Strider 2 for the PSOne, not the GODAWFUL, US Gold-made Journey From Darkness: Strider Returns, one of what I think is one of my Top 10 worst games of all time), but it couldn't capture how much I loved the first one. Hehe, this trip down memory lane I've been having with his game really makes me want to do a Strider Hiryu costume badly. 8D
I never actually played the NES Strider; I was just researching about it, and I didn't know it was a different game than the arcade that's based on the orignal Japanese comic (which I also did not know about). I wanna try it out too. But hey it could be worse... it could have been Street Fighter 2010. :p
That mentioning of a Top 10 list makes me wanna do one, lol. Maybe later. |

| 13th Stage: New Mix, new DDR, same annoyances mixed with splendor. |
[Jul. 28th, 2006|12:47 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | aggravated | ] | So yeah, DDR Supernova is out and it rocks.
Aside from a few annoyances with timing on some songs, I am very much impressed. It's like they took so many of my favorite other Bemani songs that I love (like Mondo Street, No.13, and MOTHER F-IN' RED ZONE XDDDD), and threw in a bunch of other good songs to go along with it. The interface is nice (it's very close to beatmania IIDX Red's), and I like the new character graphics too.
However, with the return of DDR comes with a price for me. I'm back in the arcades playing the game again, but I'm not the only one back. Many of the DDR-fanatics that I couldn't stand back in the days of Extreme have returned as well.
Now, don't get me wrong, most of the people that I play with in the arcades I love to be around, but there are a small group of people that just annoy the ever-living fuck out of me. The If-You-Don't-AA-This-Song-You-Suck type of people. I was just talking about this with mdw earlier today. Why do so many people in the hardcore DDR community have such horrible social skills? They treat the game as if it's this status builder like you're a new god if you can pass Fascination MAXX. WOW, YOU WIN AT LIFE SO MUCH. What amuses me most is that a whole lot of those people that can nail the 10-footers have so much trouble with easier songs, and that's even worse. And people think that I'm afraid to play those songs. I'm not afraid; I've passed 10-footers before, I just don't play them because they are not fun AT ALL. My attitude for why I play DDR has changed so much throughout the years. Where I used to play for both fun and accuracy, it doesn't phase me nearly as much as it used to, cause now I play for fun, people (for the most part), and fitness. To me there's no point in exerting my energy and getting all tired over a "point to prove" that doesn't really exist.
Like today, Chris P. and I went to play at the Almeda Mall Supernova to see how it was. It was nice to have it to ourselves for a while, but then these two douchebags came in doing exactly what I'm talking about. I was tempted to really tell them to just shut the fuck up, but one of them crossed the line. I got very pissed off when I actually was trying to play Paranoia Respect cause Chris wanted to see what it looked like, and this other dude was saying like "DA DA DA DA" with the steps as I was playing it cause he "thought I was having trouble." After I failed, I just told him "I could go without your fucking annoying chatter behind me, thanks.", took my stuff and stormed out. And the worst thing is that people like that make those of us DDR players with, you know, normal social skills, look bad.
You know, one of these days I'm gonna be an asshole and when one of those guys starts talking steam about how good he is at the game to me, I'll just ask, "So, I've gotten laid, how about you?"
I swear, I'll do it. |

| 10th Stage: Not bad for 3 months work. |
[Jul. 15th, 2006|12:01 am] |
| [ | mood |
| | amused | ] | So I did what used to be the unthinkable... I actually passed a TaQ song on 7 Keys in IIDX tonight. It was Schlagwerk, but still it was passed nonetheless. Go me!
Actually, this game has stunted any other type of game playing (including DDR, which isn't too good), so I haven't really gotten a chance to play any new stuff. I finally reached 7-Key mode (the middle ground for beatmania IIDX, before the insane Another [7] Mode), but I'm still working hard to keep from failing miserably. I do want to play other stuff, but then again, this is the annual dead season for gaming, so I guess it's fine that IIDX is settling in before the big games come out for X-Mas.
Well, yeah. There's a quick update. Not bad for three months work. :p |

[Apr. 12th, 2006|08:09 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | aggravated | ] | Wow, I never thought being pissed off at something would actually help my IIDX playing.
I just passed Colors and Take it Easy for the first time. With "A"s no less.
I'm playing it to get it out of me before I make an angry post in starwindthebold, but I may anyway as it probably needs to be said.
Damnit, I WANT A DS LITE NOW. u_u |

Yeah, the filp-top... more about that later, heh. I must pound the crap out of "Summer Vacation" again. |

Oh yes, life is grand. XD
More later, but I must crash now. |

| 6th Stage: Damn, Bill Bellamy can't dance worth a crap. |
[Mar. 17th, 2006|02:10 pm] |

| | scared | ] | Wow... I am officially scared. I just walked out of the shower and Fastlane was on G4, and the two main guys (Bill Bellamy and that other guy) were playing DDR.
Simply appalling. o_o
At least they were playing a good song (AM-3P). :p
In other news, I just ordered directly from Nintendo an official Gamecube Component Cable for my new TV. $36 bucks shipped. Pretty damn good considering how sharks on eBay are wanting $80-90 for it. YAY. XD |
